Might As Well Co.

Questions, answered plainly.

The short versions, with links to the long ones. If yours isn't here, write to hello@mightaswellco.com and a person reads it.

Is this a tracker?

No. The tag has no battery, no radio, and no location. It does nothing at all until a person taps or scans it, and then it simply opens your page. If you want a map dot, buy a tracker. This is for the moment a human being finds your stuff.

What does a finder see?

A page that says what they found and how to reach you, in their language. Nothing about who owns it. The fastest answer is to look:

See what a finder sees

What if the tap doesn't work?

Some phones block taps through metal cases, and some have the feature switched off. Every tag also carries a printed code for the camera, and the tag number in plain text. Worst case: type mightaswellco.com and enter the number.

Could someone hack the tag?

Nobody can rewrite it: we seal every chip read-only before it ships. And the tag gives you a physical check no sticker product can: the code is printed into the plastic itself and the chip is sealed inside it, so a real Found Things tag carries no stickers at all. A sticker on the tag IS the warning sign; that's the overlay trick pulled on parking meters, and here it has nowhere to hide. Then the check the FBI and FTC teach for every code you scan: look at the address. A real tag always opens mightaswellco.com. Landed anywhere else? Don't trust it.

What do you learn about the person who finds it?

That a tag was viewed, and when. No location, no device details, nothing to profile them with. They're doing you a favour, and we treat them like it. The whole privacy story

Can two adults be on one tag?

Yes. Add a second contact by email from the manage page. They fill in their own details and decide for themselves; a finder sees you first, with them as the backup for the day your phone is dead. Manage my tags

Do I need an account?

No. Your tag is yours because you're holding it, and changes route through the email already saved on it. The manage page runs on your email alone: one link, every tag you own.

Does my name go on it?

No name, no age, no address. There's no field for them, on the tag or in our database. If the school wants a name, write it inside the bag where only someone already holding it open can read it. The tag rides outside and does the finding.

Will I know when it's scanned?

Yes. We email you the moment your tag is scanned, then pause five minutes so a curious finder can't fill your inbox. Each contact can turn their own alerts off any time from the manage page.

Does it work in Spanish?

The finder's page opens in the finder's language, English or Spanish, whichever their phone speaks, no matter which language you set the tag up in. The tag itself is printed in English.

What happens if you close up shop?

You get at least 90 days' notice and a copy of everything we hold on your tags. It's written down, because companies in this line have vanished without a word and left their customers' tags pointing at nothing. Read the promise

What if I change my mind?

Email us within 30 days and we refund the whole order, no reason needed. Don't post anything back: each tag is coded to your order and can't go to anyone else. Refunds and returns
